Good logging practices is more than cutting down trees

The Harvest

Once all the arrangements have been made, and the landowner has clearly set out the objectives of the harvest, the crew gets things underway.

The first morning, Scooter shows up with the big articulated cutter.  This machine can take a big pine out and move it around like it was a matchstick.

E-Tex crews carefully top and windrow selective cutsNext, Chris Loftin's crews get into action.  They start sorting out logs to ensure your get top dollar for your timber.

As quickly as Scooter cuts the trees and windrows the tops, other crews using big skidders, bring the logs to the sorter.

Minimum Mess

We won't kid you: Logging will change the appearance of your land dramatically.  But E-Tex takes the time to make sure the mess left behind is as small as possible.

  • The cutter will take the trees as close to the ground level as possible.  This causes us a lot of extra wear on the 3" carbide tipped cutter blades (at $2,000 a set), but it's one of the extra steps we take to make sure your timber is harvested as neatly as possible.
  • Another example is how we take the time to windrow your tops.  Instead of having tops (small branches of no economic value to mills) scattered all over your land, they will be in rows.
  • We can also occasionally refer firewood cutters to you.  While they generally won't pay you for small branches, it will put the wood to good use (it's much better than rotting it out).

Well, this is up to you.  But we think you'll be very pleased with the results delivered by E-Tex.
