Working with Property OwnersE-Tex strives for 100% customer satisfaction. To do this, we go through a very rigorous process of working with property owners. The first step is a visit by Mike Birdwell. He'll walk your land with you, offer some ideas of what kind of harvest to expect, and make suggestions about scheduling, and discuss where the timber "sets" will be placed on your land. If you're new to timbering, you'll find Mike an invaluable source of information. For example. if you have mixed pines and hardwoods, he might suggest which trees you mark as "don't cuts" in order to preserve your land's ecological value. On a recent job, Scooter (who drives the cutter) noticed a landowner's catalpa tree that served as a host for earthworms - and reputedly the best worms in the world for bass fishing. So, he shut down the rig, marked the tree as a "don't cut" because that one tree could produce several hundred dollars a year in "fishing bait" income for the landowner. That's the kind of attention to detail that E-Tex provides. Some landowners will even draw up cut maps with Mike. This ensures that specific trees, or areas, will be left in original condition. This way, the landowner gets shade for homes or animals, wind breaks, and soil control, but at the same time the maximum harvest gain from the land is achieved.
